Youth Area Remodel Frequently Asked Questions

When will the remodel start and how long will it last?
The youth area remodel will begin Monday, June 1 and continue through September 1, 2026. During this time the youth area will be closed. We are planning a grand opening for Wednesday, September 2, 2026 to celebrate the new space!

Will the library be closed during construction?
No! The library will remain open throughout the remodel. Only the youth area will be temporarily closed during construction.

Will the garage be closed during construction?
Yes, unfortunately we will have to temporarily close the garage to the public during the construction phase, May 27 through September 1, 2026. If you need access to an ADA parking space, please call us at 970-728-4519 ext. 110.

What changes are being made to the youth services area?
We are excited about the updates! The youth area will feature new carpet, fresh paint and shelving. You will also find new seating options, an updated play area, dedicated programming space, and a quiet zone.

Will the treehouse still be included in the new space?
While the beloved treehouse won’t be part of the new design, we are excited to introduce a new playscape! We can’t wait to share what we’ve created!

Why are you doing this remodel now?
Telluride summers are beautiful, and most of our programs move outside anyway, making June through August a good time to remodel with the least impact on the families and kids who count on us during the school year.

Can I still check out books and materials during the remodel?
Absolutely! Youth staff will be happy to gather materials for you. Simply call us at 970-728-4519 ext. 123 or fill out this form, and we will put together book bags for pickup. We will also have a mini youth area set up in the magazine room with a selection of newer materials available for browsing starting June 1.

Will storytime and programs continue during construction?
Yes, our programming will continue! Please visit our online calendar or pick up a paper calendar to see what’s coming up.

Will other areas of the library still be open?
Yes! All other areas of the library will remain open and available during this time.

Where will the youth area be located in the meantime?
Starting June, a mini youth area will be set up in the Magazine Room, featuring limited seating, tables, and a selection of toys.

What about the teen area?
The teen area will remain open and is reserved for students in grades 6-12. During this period, tweens in 4th and 5th grade will be temporarily accommodated under the pergola in the teen area.

Will there be noise during library hours?
Yes, you may hear construction noise during our regular hours. We appreciate your patience as we create a better space for our youth and families!

Can I still use iPads and laptops?
Yes, youth iPads and laptops will be available at the first floor desk the first floor desk beginning June 1.

Can I still return materials?
Yes, of course! You can use our outdoor drop box or return materials at the first floor desk. Additional drop boxes are located at the Market in Mountain village, Lawson Hill Intercept Lot (near the bathrooms), and the Mercantile in Placerville.
