JOB DESCRIPTION
As a member of the Public Services Team, the Adult Programs Specialist develops and delivers adult programming that is fresh, creative, and meets the interests of the library district community. Efficiently plans, coordinates, and supervises adult library program events. Maintains communication across all library departments. Develops promotional materials and uses social media and other outlets to promote adult programs. Strives to identify the needs and interests of the community to guide the development of programs. This position works in a team setting and provides support to the team where needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides quality public library service in accordance with the Library’s mission, goals, objectives, and service standards. Helps create a welcoming and inclusive safe space for patrons at the library.
- Plans, develops, leads, and evaluates innovative, educational, and engaging adult library programs to draw people to the library and motivate them to utilize library services, collections, and resources.
- Collaborates with other community-based organizations to maximize program efficiency and develop lasting positive community relationships. Takes initiative in seeking new partnerships.
- Responds to staff/patrons/presenters/community members promptly either via phone or email.
- Monitors the adult programs budget; provides annual plans and collects data to prepare reports in a timely manner; maintains program/project records and statistical information and evaluates outcomes.
- Evaluates and enhances programs on a regular basis and identifies future needs and trends for programming.
- Contributes as a member of the Public Services team, attends and participates in staff meetings and committees. Provides desk coverage and support throughout the library when needed. Works efficiently and maintains communication with all library departments.
- Prepares and distributes monthly Adult Events calendars, monthly eBlast, and eye-catching program posters. Checks for quality, grammar, and accessibility.
- Seeks opportunities for job-related training, continuing education and professional development as the budget allows.
- Actively engages in self-directed professional development, including technology, library trends and issues.
- Schedule may include evenings and weekends.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

- Knowledge of budget and cost control procedures. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports. Advanced writing and editorial skills.

- Ability to represent the library in a professional manner; consistently demonstrates organization values and professional standards of conduct.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Experience in project management and event planning; and experience in public libraries preferred.
Working knowledge of: Basic computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; email, social media platforms, and the Internet.
Preferred: Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently.
